The first week in Namuwongo, near Kampala, went really well. It was intended to limit the numbers to 100 but by Tuesday 147 had signed up. There were pastors from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and DRC. Their responses were amazing; really quiet during the presentation of the teaching but then in the prayer ministry time a lot of real encounters with the Father took place. There were a number of situations relating to relationships amongst the leaders which were gloriously resolved during the week. We seem to forget so easily the miraculous nature of what God loves to do in our hearts when we choose to open up to Him.

We loved visiting Wellspring Church on the Sunday and had great fellowship with the local pastors and leaders. It was so good to see the team that is gathering and its established core value of the Father’s Love.

The following week we moved on to Mukono about 10 miles further away from Kampala. We were taken about 16 miles into the bush to a retreat centre where a group of Anglicans including vicars, lay readers and intercessors gathered. Little did we realise, as we travelled back to the hotel on the Thursday evening that riots were taking place in the town. Eventually after being driven around some back roads, the minibus took shelter behind some buildings because there were crowds of people screaming, shouting and running in an attempt to get away from the security forces who were firing rifles and tear gas grenades. After about 10 minutes the pastor said we should all get out and walk the 100 metres to the main road and across it to the hotel, which the team did. We were shocked to see the main road looking like a war film; tyres burning in the road, smoke and tear gas hanging heavily, stones and debris littering the highway, no people at all except the security forces some 50 m away. We ran across the road into the hotel and the gates were locked behind us. Later from the 4th floor we watched the riot police chasing people in the streets around the hotel. There were constant fusillades of rifle fire and the loud popping of the tear gas grenades. So on advice from the British High Commission and our Ugandan friends we stayed at the hotel for the next 2 days until the situation calmed down. Thanks to many praying friends, the situation which was forecast to get much worse (over 20 people died in the 2 days), actually calmed down and normal life resumed after 3 days. It was disappointing not to finish the school although we heard that they had testimonies in our absence. The testimonies centred around revelation of the effect that their childhood experience had had on their lives and their relationship with God, and secondly how they were currently treating their own children. One man said he was going home to repent to his children for the things he had done to them.

January

At the beginning of January, we had the opportunity to return to Kirovograd, Ukraine where David and Joy Saunders led a team of young people to minister at a youth conference. In was a great time resting in God's presence and teaching the youth about the love of their heavenly Father. It was also an excellent opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones! We were pleasantly surprised to meet two groups from Moscow and St. Petersburg in Russia who had travelled a long distance to be there.

The rest of the month of January passed in a blur of excitement and activity as we prepared for, then celebrated the wedding of our daughter Sarah to Ben Jackson. We had such a brill day and felt the incredible presence of the Father hovering over it all. Of course we are biased, but we think she was the most beautiful bride ever!

February

In February we spent some time recovering from the wedding....and ministering locally.

March

The conference in Ukraine in January gave us the opportunity to connect with some young people in Russia who invited us to speak at a Youth conference in Moscow in early March where the presence of God was strong and we saw some amazing heart healing take place. We were also privileged to meet with several different groups who have a deep longing to know the Father's love.

In March, it was so good to be at Naomi's wedding in Ashdod, Israel. For the last 10 years Naomi has played a big part in our ministry in Russia in being an amazing interpreter, organiser, travel companion on trains, planes and automobiles and developing her own ability to minister to many recovering from drug and family abuse. We will miss her so much and want to honour the self sacrifice and commitment she has displayed at many levels. We had a lovely time at her wedding and are excited about her new life in Israel with Igor.

We had the opportunity to visit various other places in Israel which brought the reality of Jesus who lived, ministered, died and rose again into clear focus.

Looking forward

The months ahead involve considerable travel to various nations (take a look at our itinerary page) - we are more than ever convinced of the desperate need of an ongoing encounter with the Father and His awesome love. His longing to Father us is as undiminished as ever.

January 2009 Update

We really want you all to know how much we have appreciated your prayer support during ‘08. It was a demanding year, but because of the way you have prayed we saw so much good stuff happen in the lives of many people around the nations. Some of you have also given financial support which we also appreciate so much. It has enabled us to pay for conferences around the nations. We have been constantly in awe how the Father has provided for us, at all times faithful to His word.

The Philippine trip was amazing (these superlatives sometimes seem hollow but how else can we express the sense that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit were with us, doing things that were totally beyond our ability or competence). In each of the 4 locations we really saw transformations, and especially with the 40 students in Camiling. These lovely young men and women who are so passionate and sacrificial for God, had truly startling encounters with the Father, most of them sobbed helplessly for a long time during or at the end of each session....and Faith and I had the privilege of hugging them as they cried and dribbled over us !!! Most of them had a view of God which was as a distant, demanding and angry Father. We wish you could all have seen them get totally unstitched by His incredible love and compassion for them. In Baguio City, we have had several text messages to say that the following 2 Sundays after our visit was taken up by testimonies of what God had done. Pastor Gomez has asked us to return in October ‘09 when he will ask all the graduates of previous years to come for a week’s refresher with the Father. We already feel excited at the prospect. Thanks again for praying !!!

Please pray with us as we seek to determine our plans for the coming year. We have a number of planned foreign visits, and also some UK locations. However we sense that the Father is going to open new doors for us in unexpected places.

Lots of love,
David and Faith.

Amsterdam Report

What a brill time we had. Thanks so much for praying. About 70 people met together on the Monday morning in the YWAM building in the heart of the city. God’s Embassy, the church led by Dick and Arleen Westerhof, who meet in the YWAM building, hosted the event.

The response to the teaching and the presence of God was as strong as we have ever felt. What a great bunch of people who seemed ready for anything and went for every prayer time with such abandon. It seemd that most people there had significant encounters with the Father or a big shift in where they were at with the issues of their hearts. The week was so much fun, exhilarating and refreshing for us and the team.

On Friday afternoon just before we left for the airport, the group had the opportunity to give testimony. There were such moving stories of painful events that had almost ruined their lives but the breakthrough had come for so many. For one former drug dealer who was in recovery, the week had shown him that his whole reason for getting into drugs in the first place was because he had longed for love but not received it. He laughed as he said that his encounter with the Father this week was better than the best drug.

We also made a really good connection with Dick and Arleen and their leadership team. They have a vision for the inner city and know God has placed them there as a lighthouse to Amsterdam. We loved the prayer, intercessory and prophetic gifting we saw in evidence, and delighted to be prayed and prophesied over before we left. We believe we will be going back there in the future.
